Stage 2 Proliferative phase 4-21 days

Stage 3 remodeling phase of injury 21 days – 2 years

Stage 4 Bone remodeling 8-12 weeks post injury to several years

Nutrient Needs During injury and rehab

caloric intake – BMR may increase 15-50% pending the severity of the trauma

sports injuries and minor surgeries 15-20% increase while major surgery can push up to 50% increase in BMR

BMR = 1611/day

Sedentary – 1933 kcal/day
Training and/or competing daily – 2739kcal/day
Injured Recovering – 2319kcal /day

Macro Needs

Protein

.8 g/kg – 2.0 g/kg standard range

when injured 1g/lb

14g arginine
14g glutamine

Fat
Omega 6 to Omega 3 Ratio 1:1 – 3:1 range
1/3 split between saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated

During acute injury increase omega 3 intake and lower omega 6

3-9g fish oils or similar product

Carbs
no set standards yet however base calculations off needs with protein and fat.

Monitor as much as possible
